Cover image for Enchanting in the Northlands. Two people are dressing, one pulling on bright pants and the other securing a boot. They are surrounded by colourful equipment, and tents in the background.
A scrap of paper. Text reads: Charming the World. You are an Enchanter. You seek out ancient stories that tell the Origins of the world. By Telling these stories, you can Catalyse the world around you to Change. The act of Telling is taxing, rapidly draining your body of Warmth. Some Changes take more Effort than others to Catalyse; using relevant or cleverly applied Origins can reduce the Effort needed.
A scan of an old postcard. A woman in a loose dress sits on a crescent moon, sharing a glance with an owl. A written comment says 'she's so pretty'.
A scan of an old postcard, depicting elderly women tumbling through dark stormy skies. A scrap of paper reads: Dueling A wise Enchanter avoids a Duel at all costs. When Dueling, your goal is to incapacitate (or kill) your opponent. You each Tell a story from a single Origin. Beginning with the challenger, you take turns trying to Catalyze Changes with your story. Your goal is to either make a Change that your opponent cannot counter or to keep countering them until they are exhausted into hypothermia.

Past the tip of Finland, over the ocean and through the ice lie the Northlands. Here the spirits of our world are closer than anywhere else. Specially trained Enchanters can sing the ancient origins, and in so doing catalyse the world to change.

You can get a glimpse of this world through the collected notes of my grandmother, who studied at a boarding school in the Northlands when she was a teenager. Her handwriting can be a bit difficult to decipher, so with the help of researcher and writer Lizy Simonen, I've curated a plain text version to accompany this free PDF.
